A three-run homer by Dusty Baker capped a rally in the eighth inning that lifted the Dodgers to a 5-3 victory over the Cardinals, handing the Redbirds their seventh straight defeat and sending them tumbling into the cellar in the N.L. East. The Dodgers were behind, 3-1, when Davey Lopes drew a one-out walk and Cardinals starter Bob Forsch was relieved by Jim Kaat.

After Derrel Thomas struck out Reggie Smith singled, sending Lopes to third and resulting in Kaat's being derricked in favor of Mark Littell, who entered the game with a 6.10 ERA and promptly yielded a single to Steve Garvey and Baker's game-winning blast. [The Sporting News]
