Ray Burris came within one out of pitching his first complete game since September 17, 1978, before Neil Allen took over to complete the Mets' 2-1 victory over the Braves. The Mets scored in the fourth inning on a double by Frank Taveras and single by Steve Henderson and then added what proved to be the deciding run in the seventh on a single by Henderson, forceout by Joel Youngblood, walk to Elliott Maddox and single by Doug Flynn.

Burris gave up three hits and the Braves' run in the ninth before departing with two out and men on second and third. Allen retired Chico Ruiz on a fly to pick up his eighth save. [The Sporting News]
