Craig Swan pitched a three-hitter and was rewarded with a victory when the Mets broke up a scoreless game in the eighth inning and defeated the Braves, 3-0. Frank Taveras, who collected four of the Mets' eight hits off Phil Niekro, doubled with one away and scored the first run on a two-out double by John Stearns. Mike Jorgensen then clinched the decision with a two-run homer.
