A throwing error by Bill Russell with two out in the ninth inning allowed two runs to score and gave the Cubs a 2-1 victory over the Dodgers. With one away, Tim Blackwell doubled and moved to third on a single by Lenny Randle.

Bill Buckner flied out, Blackwell holding third, but Randle advanced to second after the catch. Larry Biittner then grounded to Russell and when the Dodgers' shortstop uncorked a wild throw, Blackwell and Randle scored. [The Sporting News]
