. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Driving in six runs with his first career grand slam and two singles, Rick Cerone paced the Yankees to a 13-5 blasting of the Tigers. Cerone singled in runs in the fifth and seventh innings and belted a bases-loaded homer to highlight a six-run eighth.

The Yankees trailed, 3-1, going into the fifth when Bucky Dent doubled and scored on a single by Bobby Brown. Willie Randolph got a bunt single and a single by Ruppert Jones plated Brown. When right fielder Dave Stegman misplayed the ball, Randolph also scored. Dave Rozema replaced Dan Schatzeder and got the first out of the inning. But Jones stole third and scored when third baseman Richie Hebner failed to handle the throw. Cerone singled home the final run of the inning. [The Sporting News]
