The Dodgers and Reds split a doubleheader, L. A. winning the first game, 4-0, as Jerry Reuss pitched a four-hitter in recording his 23rd career shutout, and the Reds captured the nightcap, 5-4, with a grand slam by George Foster the decisive blow. In the opener, Ron Cey smacked a solo round-tripper in the second inning and the Dodgers added a pair of runs in the third on a bases-loaded walk to Steve Garvey and sacrifice fly by Dusty Baker.

The score was tied, 1-1, in the fifth inning of the second game when the Reds loaded the bases on singles by Dave Collins and Dave Concepcion and a walk to Ken Griffey. Joe Beckwith then came on to relieve Dave Goltz for the Dodgers and was greeted by Foster's big blast. [The Sporting News]
