Right fielder Dan Ford dropped a fly ball with two out in the eighth inning, allowing three runs to score and enabling the Rangers to pull out a 6-5 decision over the Angels. Buddy Bell, Johnny Grubb and Bob Babcock were tossed out of the game for Texas and Bruce Kison was ejected for California as a result of three separate beanball incidents.

Jim Sundberg led off the Texas eighth with a single before Kison hit Grubb and a fight erupted, with Kison and Grubb wrestling at the mound. Mickey Rivers singled off reliever Mark Clear to load the bases. Bump Wills then drew a walk that forced in a run. Two outs later, Pat Putnam hit a routine fly to right for what should have been the third out, but Ford dropped the ball and three runs scored.

Bell was ejected in the sixth for charging the mound after a close pitch from Kison. Babcock, after being warned, was banished in the seventh for throwing behind Ford. [The Sporting News]
