Jason Thompson, in his first time at bat for California, drilled a three-run pinch-double in the eighth inning to spark the Angels to a 7-6 victory over the Rangers. Thompson scored the fourth run of the frame after Dickie Thon singled but was out trying to stretch the hit into a double.

Thompson stopped at third but came home when Texas shortstop Pepe Frias, thinking there were three outs after tagging Thon, dropped the ball on the mound and was charged with an error.
