Bert Blyleven, who walked out on the Pirates earlier in the season in dissatisfaction over his handling by Manager Chuck Tanner, achieved his first victory of the year, defeating the Mets, 5-0. The shutout was the 40th of his career.

Craig Swan, who was the loser, yielded only three hits, but they included homers by Dave Parker and Omar Moreno. Parker also knocked in two runs with a double off reliever Jeff Reardon in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
