Dale Berra hit the first grand slam of his major league career to help Jim Bibby boost his record to 6-1 as the Pirates pounded the Mets, 13-3. The Pirates turned the game into a rout with seven runs in the fifth inning.

After run-scoring singles by Bill Robinson and Bill Madlock kayoed Pete Falcone, John Pacella came in and loaded the bases by hitting Lee Lacy with a pitch and walking Steve Nicosia.
