Making his first major league appearance, Bob Pate drew a walk with the bases loaded in the 13th inning, forcing in Rodney Scott with the run that gave the Expos an 8-7 victory over the Cubs. Scot Thompson, Ken Henderson and Mike Vail hit homers for the Cubs, while the Expos had round-trippers by Warren Cromartie and Jerry White.

In the 13th, Scott walked, Andre Dawson was hit by a pitch and, after a sacrifice, the Cubs passed Cromartie intentionally to load the bases. Pate then batted for Woodie Fryman and drew his game-winning walk when Lynn McGlothen missed the plate on a 3-2 pitch. [The Sporting News]
