A two-out single in the ninth inning by Ed Ott scored Vance Law and lifted the Pirates to a 4-3 victory over the Phillies. Law singled to lead off the ninth and advanced to second on a groundout by Dave Parker. Tug McGraw intentionally walked Willie Stargell and Bill Madlock around a groundout by John Milner to load the bases before Ott provided the winning blow.
