A home run by Gorman Thomas triggered a five-run fourth inning as the Brewers saluted the return of Manager George Bamberger by whipping the Tigers, 8-4, for their 11th victory in the last 14 games. The Brewers were 26-21 under interim skipper Buck Rodgers while Bamberger was recuperating from March 26 open-heart surgery.

After Thomas' 10th homer of the season tied the contest, 1-1, Charlie Moore had a two-run single and Ed Romero drove in the other two runs with a double. Romero had a third RBI in the game when he walked with the bases loaded in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
