Manny Trillo drove in the game's first run and later scored another, and pitcher Randy Lerch contributed an RBI single to lead the Phillies to a 5-2 victory over the Cubs. After Trillo's second-inning RBI had given the Phils a 1-0 lead, Pete Rose doubled and scored on a single by Bake McBride and Bob Boone followed with a run-scoring single for two more runs in the fifth.

Larry Biittner's RBI double cut the lead to 3-1 in the sixth, but the Phils bounced back for two more runs in their half on consecutive singles by Larry Bowa, Trillo and Lerch and a later RBI single by Mike Schmidt. [The Sporting News]
