Eddie Solomon and Kent Tekulve combined on a six-hitter and Mike Easler hit his third home run of the day to give the Pirates a 3-0 triumph over Mets in the nightcap after the Mets took the opener, 6-4. The Mets overcame a 4-3 deficit in the seventh inning of the opener when Frank Taveras singled home Doug Flynn and hot-hitting Steve Henderson, who was 4-for-4 with three RBIs, smashed a single to plate Lee Mazzilli and Taveras.

John Milner's two-out single gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the second game. Omar Moreno increased the lead with a run-scoring single in the fifth. Then Easler, who had two homers in the first game, led off the ninth with a blast over the left-center field barrier. [The Sporting News]
