Andre Dawson went 5-for-5 and drove in two runs and Rowland Office and Warren Cromartie had two RBIs apiece, enabling the Expos to extend their winning streak to six games with a 9-4 victory over the Cardinals in the nightcap. The Expos also won the first game of the doubleheader, 6-4. Cardinals Manager Ken Boyer was fired between games of the twin bill with the worst record (18-33) in baseball. Coach Jack Krol ran the club in the second game.

In the opener, Gary Carter slammed a two-run homer as the Expos erupted for three runs in the first inning. Ron LeFlore made it 4-0 with a single in the second and Cromartie made it 5-0 in the third with a round-tripper. In the nightcap. the Expos erased a 3-1 Cardinals lead with an RBI single by Cromartie in the third and a run-scoring single by LeFlore and two-run double by Dawson in the fourth.
