Rallying for three runs in the eighth inning, the Angels snapped a six-game losing streak by shading the Yankees, 5-4. The Yanks led, 4-2, when Bobby Clark stroked a one-out single and Freddie Patek followed with a home run to tie the score.

Tom Donohue then singled and reached second on a bunt single by Rick Miller. Rich Gossage relieved Rudy May on the mound for the Yanks and struck out Carney Lansford, but Rod Carew then drilled a single to right to score Donohue with the winning run. [The Sporting News]
