A two-run homer by Garry Maddox in the sixth inning lifted the Phillies to a 4-3 decision over the Giants. The Phils were behind, 3-2, going into the bottom of the sixth, when Greg Luzinski drew a leadoff walk and, one out later, Maddox connected for the circuit.

Luzinski drilled a leadoff homer in the second inning and the Phils tallied once in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Pete Rose. Ron Reed pitched three innings of hitless relief to pick up the save. [The Sporting News]
