J.R. Richard pitched his third consecutive shutout as the Astros beat the Cubs, 3-0. The fireballing righthander extended his scoreless streak to a club-record 31 1/3 innings. The Astros scored twice in the first inning when Terry Puhl singled, stole second and came home on a double by Jose Cruz, who then tallied on a single by Denny Walling.
