Unleashing an 18-hit attack, the Cubs snapped a four-game losing streak with a 10-5 victory over the Braves. The Cubs jumped on Phil Niekro for three runs in the first inning on a run-scoring double by Bill Buckner and RBI singles by Mike Vail and Barry Foote.

In the second frame, Niekro was kayoed after giving up six straight hits and four runs. RBI singles by Lenny Randle and Vail and a two-run single by Larry Biittner accounted for the tallies. [The Sporting News]
