Jim Rice homered, singled and scored two runs as the Red Sox won their sixth straight game, 6-5 over the Angels. Rice broke a 1-1 tie with a leadoff homer in the sixth and the Sox made it 3-1 in the seventh on a triple by Jim Dwyer and sacrifice fly by Glenn Hoffman.

Singles by Rice, Carlton Fisk and Butch Hobson produced another Red Sox run in the eighth and Tony Perez doubled home a pair of tallies in the ninth. The Angels rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single by Freddie Patek and run-scoring double by Rod Carew before Skip Lockwood came on to get the final out.
