Overcoming their own defensive lapses, the Cardinals outlasted the Reds, 10-9, in 13 innings, as Terry Kennedy brought the Redbirds from behind with a one-out, two-run double. The Cards trailed, 9-8, going into the bottom of the 13th when Garry Templeton opened with a walk and, one out later, Keith Hernandez singled to bring on Mike LaCoss in place of Paul Moskau on the hill for the Reds. Kennedy hit his first serve to the wall in left-center to chase home the tying and winning runs.

The Reds had taken an 8-5 lead in the ninth with a six-run rally but the Cards tied it on a two-out, three-run single by George Hendrick. The Reds went ahead, 9-8, in the top of the 13th with the aid of two St. Louis errors. [The Sporting News]
