Driving in two runs, Ted Simmons paced the Cardinals to a 3-2 decision over the Braves. The Redbirds catcher clouted a solo homer in the first inning and drove home the winning run with a double in the ninth.

Garry Templeton began the Cardinals' ninth with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice and, after Keith Hernandez was intentionally walked, came home when Simmons lined a shot off the right field wall. [The Sporting News]
