A single by Gene Richards with the bases loaded and two out in the ninth inning lifted the Padres to a 2-1 triumph over the Mets. The score was 1-1 going into the bottom of ninth when Bill Fahey got an infield single.

Dave Cash hita  grounder to Elliott Maddox but the third baseman's throw to second sailed into right field and Paul Dade, running for Fahey, reached third. After Tim Flannery was given an intentional walk to fill the sacks, Gene Tenace struck out but Richards grounded a single to left to score the winning run. [The Sporting News]
