Stringing together six straight hits, including a bases-loaded triple by Rafael Landestoy, the Astros scored five runs in the second inning and defeated the Pirates, 6-4. With one out, Jeff Leonard, Alan Ashby and Ken Forsch hit singles to fill the sacks and set the stage for Landestoy's triple.

Terry Puhl followed with a single, scoring Landestoy. After a single by Jose Cruz for the Astros' sixth hit in a row, sending Puhl to third, Cesar Cedeno lofted a sacrifice fly. Mike Easler hit a two-run homer for the Pirates in the third inning to snap a string of 29 innings of scoreless pitching by the Astros' staff. [The Sporting News]
