Fergie Jenkins struck out five to increase his career total to 2,824 and move ahead of Cy Young into eighth place on the all-time list as the Rangers defeated the Blue Jays, 5-2. Jenkins pitched a five-hitter. Rick Bosetti hit a double and homer, driving in both Blue Jays runs.

The Rangers picked up an unearned pair in the sixth inning to tie the score and went ahead in the seventh on singles by Al Oliver and Rusty Staub and sacrifice fly by Richie Zisk. Dave Roberts iced the verdict with a two-run homer in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
