With a crowd of 51,598 on hand for annual Old Timers Day, the Yankees extended their winning streak to nine games with a 5-3 victory over the A's. Tommy John became the A.L.'s first 10-game winner this season with the help of Rich Gossage, who relieved with one out in the eighth inning. Jim Spencer smashed a three-run homer in the first.
