Helped by three straight walks, plus a throwing error by Garry Templeton, the Reds rallied for five runs in the seventh inning and defeated the Cardinals, 8-5. Losing, 5-2, the Reds filled the sacks on passes issued by Kim Seaman.

John Littlefield relieved and was greeted with a two-run double by Ray Knight. After an intentional pass to George Foster, Joe Nolan grounded into a forceout but Templeton threw wild, trying for a double play, as two runs scored.
