Pinch-hitter Pat Putnam came through with a single in the ninth inning, scoring Jim Norris, to bring the Rangers a 2-1 victory over the Blue Jays. Norris beat out an infield hit to lead off the frame and moved to second on a sacrifice by Jim Sundberg. After pinch-hitter Johnny Grubb drew a walk, Putnam followed with his hit. Jon Matlack, who pitched the route, gained his first victory since May 12. [The Sporting News]
