Splitting a doubleheader, the Mets won the opener, 9-1, and the Cubs captured the nightcap, 4-1. The Mets jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the lidlifter on consecutive RBI doubles by Claudell Washington and Joel Youngblood and added another run in the second on a sacrifice fly by Pat Zachry.
