Completing the three-game series sweep, the Cardinals triumphed over the Pirates, 4-1. The Redbirds trailed, 1-0, going into the bottom of the fifth inning but went ahead, 2-1, with a single by Ken Oberkfell, a bunt by Don Hood on which both runners were safe, a sacrifice by Bobby Bonds, sacrifice fly by Garry Templeton and single by Keith Hernandez.

They added two more tallies in the seventh when Templeton doubled, Hernandez walked, Ted Simmons singled in Templeton and Hernandez raced home while Simmons was in a rundown between first and second. [The Sporting News]
