Steve Trout and Mike Proly combined on a six-hitter as the White Sox prevailed over the Angels, 5-2. The White Sox scored a pair of unearned runs in the second inning. Chet Lemon walked, took second on a single by Bruce Kimm and came home when third baseman Carney Lansford threw Kevin Bell's grounder past second base. Kimm registered on a force play.

Lemon drilled a two-run double in the third and then scored on a single by Ron Pruitt. Rod Carew extended his hitting streak to 16 games, matching his career high, with an RBI triple in the fourth and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Don Baylor, in the lineup for the first time since going on the disabled list May 9 with a wrist fracture.
