Generally ignoring the heat, the Rangers piled up 18 hits, including two homers by Buddy Bell, and defeated the Twins, 11-3. The temperature was 107 degrees when the game started. Al Oliver was the only Ranger to show the effects of the heat, leaving the field in the third inning.

Johnny Grubb, who replaced Oliver, batted in two runs with a double. Mickey Rivers, who had four hits, also accounted for two RBIs. The Twins were held to five hits by three Ranger pitchers, Steve Comer, Dave Rajsich and Danny Darwin. [The Sporting News]
