The Astros and Reds staged a free-hitting contest with the Astros finally prevailing, 12-10. A two-run single by Dave Concepcion gave the Reds an 8-5 lead in the sixth inning, but the Astros came back in the bottom of the frame with a two-run pinch-homer by Denny Walling.

After the Reds scored on a sacrifice fly by Joe Nolan in the top of the seventh, the Astros went ahead, 10-9, in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single by Art Howe and two-run pinch-double by Joe Morgan. However, the Astros needed two more runs on singles by Cesar Cedeno and Howe in the eighth to win the game. [The Sporting News]
