After the Giants won the first game of a doubleheader, 4-3, the Dodgers came back to take the second game, 3-0. The lidlifter was tied, 3-3, going into the bottom of the ninth inning when Rennie Stennett stroked a leadoff single. Two outs later, pinch-hitter Willie McCovey doubled to score Stennett with the winning run.

Burt Hooton tossed a four-hitter in the nightcap. The Dodgers' first run came in the sixth inning when Davey Lopes walked, took second on a single by Rudy Law, reached third on a groundout and came home on a wild pitch. The other tallies followed in the seventh on a single by Derrel Thomas, double by Mike Scioscia, sacrifice by Hooton and bunt by Lopes. [The Sporting News]
