Bert Campaneris ran for Thompson and went to second on a single by Carney Lansford. After a walk to Larry Harlow loaded the bases, Rudi followed with his hit to center, scoring Campaneris and Lansford. After Rudi advanced to second on an error, Grich delivered a two-run single.
