A three-run homer by Lenny Randle and scoreless relief pitching by Bruce Sutter carried the Cubs to a 4-3 triumph over the Mets. After the Mets had taken a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning with a three-run rally keyed by a two-run homer by Lee Mazzilli, the Cubs struck back in the seventh.

Pinch-hitter Mike Vail was safe at first on an error by third baseman Elliott Maddox and, following a single by pinch-hitter Cliff Johnson, Randle lined a 1-1 pitch over the right field wall. Sutter came on with two men on base and one out in the bottom of the seventh and allowed only one hit the rest of the way to record his 18th save, tops in the majors. [The Sporting News]
