A single by Rick Sofield with two out in the ninth inning drove home the winning run as the Twins edged the Royals, 2-1. The game was tied, 1-1, in the ninth when Jose Morales ripped a one-out double and was replaced by pinch-runner Ken Landreaux. After a groundout, Landreaux took third on an infield single by Dave Edwards and tallied when Sofield stroked the ball safely into left field. [The Sporting News]
