Key hits by Bucky Dent and Reggie Jackson and air-tight relief pitching by Ron Davis enabled the Yankees to post a 3-2 triumph over the Red Sox. The Yanks jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a single by Joe Lefebvre, double by Rick Cerone and single by Dent. Jackson made it 3-0 with a homer in the third.
