Making his last appearance in Candlestick Park before ending his 22-year major league career, Willie McCovey delivered a run-scoring single to help the Giants defeat the Reds, 4-3. After taking a 3-1 lead on McCovey's hit in the third inning, the Giants added what proved to be the winning run when Reds reliever Mario Soto walked four straight batters after two were out in the sixth.
