After pitching 109 innings this season without allowing a home run, J.R. Richard was tagged for two but came out with credit for the victory when the Astros defeated the Braves, 5-3. Richard gave up back-to-back blows by Dale Murphy and Chris Chambliss in the sixth before leaving the game with a 3-2 lead. Terry Puhl then homered in the seventh to provide the Astros' deciding run.
