After scoring six runs in the first inning of the opener, the Astros fell into the doldrums and lost both ends of a twi-night doubleheader to the Reds, 8-6 and 3-2. Bruce Berenyi, making his major league debut, was kayoed by the Astros in their initial outburst, but Mario Soto then pitched 8 2/3 innings of shutout relief. [The Sporting News]
