The relief pitching of Bobby Castillo enabled the Dodgers to defeat the Giants, 3-2. Castillo took over and stifled the Giants after Bob Welch issued a pass with the bases loaded in the seventh inning. The first two runs of the game scored on homers by Reggie Smith and Milt May for a 1-1 tie.
