Two-run homers by Johnny Bench and George Foster powered the Reds to a 5-3 victory over the Braves behind the pitching of Mario Soto, who was a last-minute starter in place of Frank Pastore. Bench's blast followed a single by Dan Driessen in the seventh inning and Foster's smash came after a double by Ken Griffey in the eighth. Soto was relieved with two out in ninth by Tom Hume, who gave up a run-scoring double by Glenn Hubbard before ending the game. [The Sporting News]
