The Rangers piled up 18 hits, including three each by Mickey Rivers and Buddy Bell, to outslug the Yankees, 10.8. Tom Underwood, who started for the Yankees, failed to retire a batter in the first inning as the Rangers scored five runs.

Johnny Grubb knocked in one tally with a double in the second and homered with a man on base in the fourth. A single by Bump Wills scored Rivers with what proved to be the deciding run in the fifth. Richie Zisk added an insurance tally with a single in the eighth. Reggie Jackson smashed a three-run homer for the Yankees. [The Sporting News]
