After Woodie Fryman relieved, pinch-hitter Bobby Bonds singled to load the bases. Ken Oberkfell forced Bonds as Hendrick scored. Keith Smith then batted for Silvio Martinez and doubled, driving in pinch-runner Tony Scott and Oberkfell to put the Cards ahead.
