. . . where the 1970s live forever!

A grand slam by Cliff Johnson in the seventh inning lifted the Cubs to an 8-6 victory in a split of a twi-night doubleheader with the Expos, who won the first game, 10-2. Ellis Valentine and Gary Carter drove in three runs apiece for the Expos in the lidlifter.

In the nightcap, the Cubs were trailing, 6-3, going into the seventh inning when Mike O'Berry singled and Jesus Figueroa walked to chase Bill Lee, who was making his first appearance since June 6. Stan Bahnsen relieved and yielded a single to Ivan DeJesus. The Expos' reliever retired the next two batters before Johnson brought victory to the Cubs with his homer. [The Sporting News]
