After Jack Clark hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning to account for a 7-4 victory in the opener, Clark and Darrell Evans homered in succession in the sixth inning of the nightcap as the Giants won, 10-7, to complete the sweep of a twi-night doubleheader with the Reds. George Foster had four hits for the Reds in the second game, including two homers, and drove in five runs.

Johnny Bench hit the 313th homer of his career as a catcher, tying Yogi Berra for the all-time major league lead among receivers. In addition to the blows by Clark and Evans, the Giants had a homer by Johnnie LeMaster in the fifth inning and two-run smash by Milt May that clinched the decision in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
