May had a no-hitter for 6 1/3 innings before Chet Lemon doubled and scored on a single by Ron Pruitt.

Eric Soderholm began the Yankees' eighth with a walk and was replaced by pinch-runner Fred Stanley. Lou Piniella broke up the no-hitter with a single that sent Stanley to third, but Piniella made a wide turn at first and was thrown out.
