Taking advantage of errors, the Pirates scored three runs in the eighth inning to end the Giants' seven-game winning streak, 5-2. With the score tied, 2-2, in the eighth, Phil Garner singled and Steve Nicosia laid down a sacrifice bunt that third baseman Darrell Evans fielded, but his throw struck pitcher Bob Knepper and the ball bounced into center field, enabling Garner to go to third and Nicosia to reach second.

After Manny Sanguillen walked, Lee Lacy's grounder was muffed by shortstop Johnnie LeMaster as Garner scored. Dave Parker then singled home two more runs. [The Sporting News]
